»Petronella« table oil lamp - "historical instructions"
"When filling up use Esso lamp oil or kerosene of the very best quality (not petrol for an oil burner).
Having filled up about 3/4 l the wick must absorb for half an hour before lighting the lamp.
The tank being full you obtain 80 burning hours.
In order to avoid smoke you have to keep the wick absolutely clean i.e. evenly cut off and free from carbonization.
Using synthetic detergent smoked lamp chimneys are easily cleaned-up.
The lamp is hand made in polished brass treated with lacquer which renders polishing unnecessary."
Fra Louis Poulsen's (historiske) vejledning til Petronella:
"Som brændstof anvendes ESSO lampeolie eller petroleum af reneste fabrikat (ikke petroleum til oliefyr).
Efter påfyldning af brændstof, ca. 3/4 l, skal vægen trække i en ½ time, inden lampen tændes.
Brændetiden på en fuld beholder er ca. 80 timer.
Hold vægen ren, lige afskåret og fri for stærke forkulninger for at undgå tilosning.
Tilosede lampeglas rengøres bedst i almindelig sulfoopløsning.
Lampen er håndlavet i blank messing og lakeret med blank beskyttelseslak, hvilket gør pudsning unødvendig".
Idag kan vi ikke få ESSO lampeolie i Danmark, men lampeolie kan fås fra Statoil, Irma, Netto, farvehandlere o.a.!
